Jenny was born in Perivale, Middlesex, to her parents Peggy and Len Tapson and lived her early life in Tonbridge, Kent, where her sister Pauline came along, eight years later. We met in Maidstone in 1970 and married at Tunbridge Wells Register Office on September 11th 1971, living in Gillingham, then Rainham, Hemel Hempstead, Bishops Stortford, and back to Hemel Hempstead.
Jenny, who liked to be called Jenni, was very outgoing and loved life, and people who knew her loved her, for her warmth, her outgoing personality, her humour. She was a great fan of Quen and particularly Freddie Mercury, and we went to London to see the tributes to him when he died on Jenny's birthday, November 24th, in 1991. She believed in alternative therapies, reiki, aromatherapy, and crystals.
She was artistic and creative, designing the décor of every home she lived in, inspiring others. She was a great mother to Scott, her only son, and was proud when he married Fiona in September 2001.
Jenny always had a fascination with Australia – she often joked that in a previous life she must have been a kangaroo – and she finally realised her ambition to visit that land in the year 2000, visiting and walking around Ularu, or Ayers Rock, that had always fascinated her.
In September 1999 she was diagnosed as having breast cancer, and bravely decided to fight that evil disease with her alternative medicines. Sadly, she succumbed on January 6th 2002, at St. Francis Hospice in Berkhamsted, surrounded by those who loved her and who will miss her for the rest of their lives. Despite her knowing she had only a short while to live, she never faltered and let her humour and bravery show through to the end.
After our divorce in 1995, I am pleased to say that we still remained good friends.
One day we will beat cancer. Until we do, we must help those who help cancer sufferers. Please donate whatever you can to St. Francis Hospice, Berkhamsted and MacMillan Cancer Care Nurses
Please visit their sites, learn about their good work, and donate money, for Jenny’s sake.
